Description

Venabustallen can offer horse back riding for all levels and ages. We arrange longer and shorter trips, riding instruction for beginners, and small rounds for children. We also arrange riding weekends and ridning holidays for those who are interested in riding several days.

These riding holidays allowes you to see more of the area and get in better contact with your horse. We ride in different terrain, and get to see the view from high mountains, waterfalls and canyons. On some of our trips we ride into the wild reindeer's territory. We have experienced guides who have worked with riding and horse for several years. It is important for us to keep a high standard when it comes to safety, service, and safe and calm horses. We want you to leave our stable with a good feeling and memories for life.

The riding holiday includes five days of horse riding in fantastic upland terrain, south of Rondane National Park. We ride over the plateau and gentle mountain tops, on safe and sturdy horses. Venabu stables is 932 m asl. On Venabygdsfjellet. The natural surroundings here are varied, with birch forest to the south and an open mountain landscape to the north. Each day rides in a different area: idyllic birch forest, over mountains, the reindeer plateau, waterfalls & canyons, all dependent on the weather & your riding skills. This holiday is for those who wish to explore the mountains, yet stay in one place, and come “home” to a warm shower, good bed and a tasty evening meal or buffet. In our view, it’s the perfect combination.

Program (week 27 to week 30):

Sunday

Arrival in time for lunch at 14.00. Afterwards meeting in the stables get to know the horses. The time until dinner at 19.00 is used for some theory and riding instruction. All riders are given their own horse for the week, to look after & ride. This is followed by a slide show from the area, and also a chance to meet the other riders and the guides. A short chat about the plans for the rest of the week.

Monday

In the afternoon we set out on a two hour tour in the local area. Buffet evening meal, followed by a fireside chat all together.

Tuesday

A whole day trip with lunch at the summer farm. The trip there takes about three hours in fantastic terrain over mountain tops to Lykkjesetra. From the summits there are great views towards Jotunheimen and over the Gudbrandsal valley. After arrival at the farm we are served a traditional lunch, and our hostess explains about the history of the farm and farming in general. The way back to the hotel takes us through the birch forests of the southern plateau and takes a couple of hours or so. After another good dinner we head downstairs for more horse talk and watch a video on ”Natural Horsemanship”.

Option: Stay over night in the old barn at Lykkjesetra, bringing sleeping bags and sleep on rein deer skins in the hay.  Evening meal and breakfast at the summer farm before riding back next morning.

Wednesday

A half day trip to the top of one of the local mountains, taking about three hours. In the afternoon you can choose between a walk, canoe paddling, swimming in the lake or fishing. Or just relax in the lounge, followed by a sauna! In the evening we serve Venabu’s “Norwegian Specialities Buffet”, serving traditional food from the local area.

Thursday

A whole day trip in the area inhabited by the local wild reindeer herd. We start out by passing our very own “grand canyon”, Dørjuvet. After about three hours of riding we stop and cook a lunch over an open fire, a lovely cup of mountain coffee and enjoy the views. A couple of hours to ride back to the hotel, farewell to the horses. In the evening we enjoy a farewell dinner together.

Friday

Departure after breakfast. Hope to see each other again soon.

We have a lot of guests who come back to year after year. Venabu has a calm and relaxing atmosphere, where people can feel at home. We can offer a hotel sited in beautiful and exciting nature, with good beds and tasty food made of local groceries, along with a great staff who do their very best to make your holiday special.
