Description

If you take north from the signpost at the strarting point, you can follow a short and easy trail to the DNT cabin at Vigdalstølen.

From Vigdalstøl you can hike to Dalsdalen by crossing the river and follow a T-marked trail to where you meet the trail between Vigdalen and Dalsdalen. From here, follow the trail east towards Dalsdalen. From Vigdalstøl you can also hike towards Fast, a day hike for experienced hikers.

From Vigdalen you are also welcome to do several other great hikes. But please don't park your car in front of the gates beside the animal grates. Otherwise you will hinder all the farmers in the valley from walking their animals between grasslands.

A few hundred years ago this path was the main road between Jostedal and Lustrafjorden. Vigdalen was then a part of Dale and this trail was the road to church. The trail is called Bispevegen (The Bishop's road) after Bishop Johan Nordal Brun, who travelled this trail when visiting Jostedalen. The year of passing and the first letters of his name are engraved in the mountain beneath Storhaug.

Trail marking

This hike is signposted and the level of difficulty indicated by colour-coded icons. Green is easiest, blue is moderate, red is demanding, and black is very demanding.
