Hiking route: the geographical midpoint of Norway

Enjoyable hike to Norway's geographical midpoint. You can enjoy nature's silence while re-charging your body and soul. The trail ascends slightly, but you walk through easy terrain. This hike is ideal as a day trip.

The hike starts at the car park at Lake Lustadvatnet which is 40 km from Steinkjer city centre. This is the gateway to Blåfjella-Skjækerfjella National Park in STeinkjer. From there you walk on marked path of railway sleepers to the geographical midpoint of Norway.

It is 10 km one way and well suited to wearing trainers when dry. The hike takes you through varied Trøndelag mountain terrain and we can see the beautiful Skjækerfjella mountains located in Blåfjella / Skjækerfjella National Park. The hike is a 20 km roundtrip and takes 5-6 hours.

When you reach the geographical midpoint, we recommend a food break in the rustic shelter / lean to before starting your return hike. There is a campfire site there and you are free to use the firewood.

The hike is perfect as a starting point for a multi-day hikes with several accommodation options right at the midpoint.

See more about the hike at Ut.no where you also find a zoomable map.
