Description

Sauda - Røldal - Suldalsosen - Sand -Sauda. 142 km, 6-8 hours, 1 ferry.

Inner Ryfylke, with its many heritage sites, its lovely landscape and the exciting Røldal road between Sauda and Røldal make this trip interesting.

Sights along fv. 520 National Tourist Route Ryfylke: Hustveit with Jonegarden farm, Svandalsfossen waterfall, Åbøbyen (the Åbø town) in Sauda and the sink mines in Allmannajuvet gorge. Please note that this road (Fv. 520) is closed during the winter (Breiborg-Røldal).

In Røldal you should see the stave church - a renowned pilgrim destination in medieval times. The road from Røldal to Sand passes Nesflaten with its Energihotel and unique 60's architecture. Then follow a series of small tunnels along the wild Suldalsvatnet lake, before you get to the museum farms Røynevarden and Kolbeinstveit. The lower part of the Suldal valley is idyllic and dominated by the mighty Suldalslågen river, known for its big salmon - if you want to see some, you should visit the Salmon Studio at the Sandsfossen in Sand.
