Description

Astruptunet was the home of painter and graphic artist Nikolai Astrup (1880 - 1928) the last 14 years of his life, and the property is maintained exactly how it was when Astrup lived there. The barn was demolished and built up into a gallery, but with the same outward appearance as the old barn. The gallery contains permanent exhibitions of Astrup's art, graphics, paintings, lithographs and sketches. The majority of his motives are inspired directly by the Jølster landscape, and Nikolai Astrup has since that time become one of the most inherently Norwegian of our nationally acclaimed artists.
