Description

For the fourth time, Bergen has the honour of being an official host port and organizer of The Tall Ships Races. Almost 100 of the biggest and most beautiful sailing ships in the world will gather in the harbour, Vågen, with more than 3,000 crew members from more than 30 nations and over 500,000 visitors.

The Tall Ships Races 2014 Bergen will be the year’s biggest cultural event in the Bergen region. It will be part of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Norway’s Constitution and the 100th anniversary of our beloved sailing ship, SS Statsraad Lehmkuhl.

Tradition and renewal are essential words for The Tall Ships Races 2014 Bergen and maritime traditions combined with modern music and culture will be emphasized in our cultural program. We intend to celebrate our Constitution by showing that Norway still is an important seafaring nation, founded upon the great days of sail. This will be symbolized by a spectacular Naming Ceremony of a new, modern vessel surrounded by the venerable Norwegian sailing ships SS Sørlandet, SS Christian Radich and SS Statsraad Lehmkuhl.

Expect a city teeming with life, crew parades, free music and entertainment at several venues, fireworks and the chance to go on board some of the world’s most beautiful sailing ships.

We look forward to welcoming ships, crews and the public to four unforgettable days in Bergen!
