Hiking in The Sunnmøre Alps

Contact information

The Sunnmøre Alps go from Nordfjord in the south to the Storfjord in the north. The steep and majestic mountains plunge into the fjords from heights of up to 1600 metres, and are popular destinations for thousands of people every year.

The majestic Sunnmøre Alps are situated around some of Sunnmøre's most breathtaking fjords, are a paradise for anyone who enjoys activities in the mountains. The mountains are considered some of the most beautiful alpine mountains Norway has to offer, and the jagged peaks rise up from the fjords to a height of 1600 metres several places.

For those who are unknown to hiking in the mountains there are organised trips with guides, and this might also be an interesting alternative for company trips and sightseeing trips a little bit out of the ordinary.

The highest peak is Råna, with its 1593 metres, and the most famous is Slogen, towering at 1546 metres. The mountains have got a lot of snow in the winter, ensuring fantastic possibilities to try skiing down long hills towards the fjords!

Sykkylven municipality is a perfect starting point for trips in the Sunnmøre Alps, and can offer both small peaks that are suited for families, and others that are challenging and adventurous to even experienced climbers.

Sykkylven has also got beautiful glaciers, and both Regndalsbreen and Gullmorbreen glaciers are worth a visit. It is important to bring a guide on your trip to these glaciers, and of course to follow the safety regulations for glacier walks.
