The beautiful Hjørundfjord takes the breath away from an increasing number of travellers as it cuts 35 kms into the massive mountains of the Sunnmøre Alps. A multitude of glaciers, alpine farms, fishing waters and small villages such as Sæbø, Trandal, Øye and Standal offer unique experiences of fjord life.

The fjord cuts the landscape in two, and is flanked on both sides by ragged walls of vertical cliffs. The mountain’s increase in height the further along the fjord you travel, from Jønshornet (1419 masl) at the mouth of the fjord to Kviteggja (1717 masl) in the South.

Along the fjord, people have a tradition of "Olav legends". One of the legends claims that the image of the Trollman on the Nes-staven mountain was branded onto the mountain when it was grazed by one of St. Olav's arrows. Then the arrow ricocheted back to Standal and landed in a field, where it stands to this day.
