Description

Route description - The picturesque River Tovdalselva runs through Birkeland. The river was once one of Norway’s best for Salmon-fishing but unfortunately it became acidified. Due to one of the worlds largest river liming projects the salmon has now returned. Along the river bank fishing places, footpaths and shelters have been organized. Slogedalen Bridge crosses the river at Slogedalen farm. In the beginning there was only a cableway, later a suspension bridge was built. The bridge was reopened in 2005.

Starting point - Walk/drive north from Birkeland centre along the main road. Pass Årdalen. Marked footpath takes off to the left and leads to the bridge. On the other side the path continues to the main road which can be followed back to Birkeland.
