Program day-to-day

Start: Træna, Sunday July 13, Noon.
End: Henningsvær, Sunday July 20, Noon.

Sunday July 13 - Welcome
15.00 - We go through the boat, the program and security routines onboard. In the evening we prepare dinner, get to know the boat and your fellow sailors and get ready to sail towards Svartisen the next morning.

Monday - sailing towards Engabreen
After breakfast we hoise the sail and train on boat handling and security outside the harbor. We go through basic theory and sail for the Nordfjord. In Nordfjord we anker and arrange for a bonfire on land. We prepare for a hike the next day and the most eager can sleep outside in the hillseide.

Tuesday - hike on the Svartisen glacier
Hike up to Svartisen from Nordfjorden.Glacier-course available on demand. After the hike on the glacier we sail to Rødøy to spend the night there. We prepare dinner on the way. We can enjoy the quiet atmosphere at Klokkargården or spend the night on anker outside the harbor.

Wednesday - Rødøyløva and sailing across the Vestfjord
Those who want can climb Rødøyløva while others enjoy a quiet breakfast in the boats. After breakfast we set sail for Myken, the northernmost island group on the coast of Helgeland, and the last islands before Røst and Lofoten. On Myken we can take a tour on land before we sail across the Vestfjord and head for Reine in Lofoten. The crossing is about 100 nautical miles and will take 10-20 hours depending on the weather. We sail in teams and take turns on sailing and sleeping. We should leave Myken at 15.00.

Thursday - Reine and beachparty on Bunesstranda
We arrive Reine in the morning and make breakfast in the harbor. After resting and a short trip on land we sail under the bridge on a low tide and in the Reinefjord to hike to Bunesstranda on the northern side of Lofoten. There we will have a beachparty with bonfire and dinner. In the evening we sail to Nusfjord to spend the night there.

Friday- surfing on Unstad, sumit hike in Nusfjord and Lofoten Viking museum
Surfs up! Lofoten has a lot to offer and on this day we will have planned a trip to Unstad Arctic Surf, the Viking museum at Borg and a sumit hike inNusfjord; Mosestind or Stjernehovudet. We rest after a active day and spend a pleasant evening in Nusfjord.

Saturday - sailing to Henningsvær
After breakfast in Nusfjord we sail the last distance to Henningsvær, possibly the most spectacular fishing outpost in Lofoten. We fish along the way and hope to get the famous Lofoten cod and other tasty white fish species. The trip finish in Henningsvær and the participants can arrange for their own lodging in Henningsvær and join the farewell party.

Breakfast and cleaning of the boats. Thank you for choosing SailNorway and we hope to see you again on one of our other trips.

This programe is to be considered as tentative as we might have to do adjustments depending on weather and conditions. This concept is not about doing as much as possible on the least amount of time, but to sail according to the conditions that nature gives us. On board we have fishing equipment and kajack and we plan to make good use of this and ventures on land.

Kystriksveien is a beautiful scenic road between Steinkjer and Bodø. Most people travel Kystriksveien by car, but it is also a great cycling route.

Just south of the Arctic Circle you will find the Vega archipelago, a cluster of dozens of UNESCO-protected islands.

Where to stay in Helgeland

Stay in a traditional Norwegian fisherman's cabin, in an authentic small hotel on the coast or in a historic hotel in Mosjøen or Mo i Rana.

Shopping along Kystriksveien

You will find artists, craftsmen and farmers selling things as varied as Sami-inspired handicrafts and local food along the Kystriksveien road.

What to do

The best place for fishing along Kystriksveien is Saltstraumen. Hiking and biking are other popular activities.

Where to stay

Stay in a historic hotel or in a remote fishermen's cabin along Kystriksveien. But whatever type of accommodation you choose, book well in advance.
