Your short walk will be rewarded with a great view! Tofjellet (722 m) is a landmark when you are driving from Tau and descend the Tveitebrekka slope towards Årdal in Ryfylke. The mountain drops into the north shore of Øvre Tysdalsvatnet lake. Årdal Sports Club has waymarked a route up to the summit, whose name comes from the two tops divided by a cleft.

The hike to Tofjellet is easy but rewarding. The route begins at the car-park in Bønardalen. It starts steeply up a broad cart-track which gradually degenerates into a path. Having climbed this first hill, it then flattens out and the rest of the walk is straightforward. After an hour or so you are on the summit, enjoying a beautiful view in all directions, not least down to Årdal and the Årdalsfjord. So allow enough time to enjoy the panorama! You should also write your name in the visitor’s book, which you will find in the post-box. Return the same way.

Follow Rv13 to Årdal, then the signposting to Høiland Gard and Valheim. Turn off at the entrance to the new housing estate and continue up to the bridge, where you have to pay a toll. Then steep up to the right, as far as the road goes.

A small space at the end of the road.

The route
Two km each way, about three hours. Side-trip to Skogarbønipen: one hour each way.
