The Alta Slate is a very high quality product, and a vast quota of production is exported. The slate industry, one of the most important in Alta, started up in the mid 19th century. You can see the slate quarry at Stilla on the road to Sautso, the Alta river canyon, and especially at Pæska. More information available at Tourist Information or at Pæskatun.
