Description

Máze Zion, the first church in Máze Zion was built in 1721 by the Sami missionary, Thomas W. Westen and Morten Lund. The first public sector school in Norway was also built at the same time. Politics laid the foundations for both the church and the school, the church to demarcate the Danish/Norwegian area (no national border between Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia) and the school to “make” the Sami into Norwegians. Guided tours, tel.: +47 78 48 75 88. The Church is not there today, but you can see some of the churtch yard.
