in bygone times nedstrand was a customs post and “capital” of Ryfylke, and today still serves as a ferry connection point between the south and east. discover the local history by vis- iting the many sections of the village museum: gamle stranda school occupies the main section and includes offices, meeting rooms and periodic exhibitions. the youth centre at Baustad has a thematic exhibition depicting working and day-to-day life in the 1900s. at Leiranger there are stone walls that were once part of a boathouse used in viking times as a coastal defencesystem. at the outdoor recreational area at Leira, nessa school has been rebuilt with an interior dating from the 1860s.
