This challenging skiing expedition is takes you through the mighty mountain and glacier landscape in the north-east of Spitsbergen, a remote area that few visit. We will be transported from Longyearbyen to Billefjorden or Gipsdalen, and from there on all we need are skis, sleds and backpacks with our own equipment. There is no set schedule for the trip; the route and tempo will be adjusted to fit the weather conditions and the participants.

On this trip we start walking up the eastside of "The Sarcophagus" at 500 m, beside the Lars Glacier. Here we take time to rest and enjoy the view over Longyearbyen and the Isfjorden, before we head south and down to the Longyear Glacier. On the way we pass through a fascinating landscape
A ski expedition during the Svalbard winter offers some of the most demanding conditions you can find in the Polar Regions. The variations in terrain, temperature, and wind make this the complete polar expedition. You will travel over sea ice, glaciers, wide valleys and moraines, and the fact that the polar bears out number you adds an extra bit of excitement.
Join us for a snowmobile safari to the closed Russian mining town Pyramiden, in the lovely Billefjord.
We head into Advent Valley before turning north over Kreklingpasset and into De Geerdalen. From Elveneset you will enjoy impressive views out towards the mighty Tempelfjellet. The guide will serve warm drinks before you turn back towards Longyearbyen. You will cover about 50km on this trip.
The Russian mining settlement Pyramiden was abandoned in 1998, leaving the buildings and infrastructure intact. We pass close by the bird cliffs at Diabas before we reach Tempelfjorden and the cathedral-like mountain, Tempelfjellet. We head towards the Nordenskiöldbreen and whilst you enjoy the view, a warm barbequed lunch is served. We investigate the once so well groomed settlement. We follow the north side of the fjord and can reflect over the tragic winter in Svenskhuset at Kapp Thordsen.
