A few hundred years ago this path was the main road between Jostedal and Lustrafjorden. Vigdalen was then a part of Dale and this path was the road to church. Spectacular views of the whole of western Norway await you at the cairn. Below, to the west, lies Skåldalen, the shieling for Åsen farm. With its many rocky and snow-covered sections, the ascent of Vangsen is not for the faint-hearted. Vangsen, Jostedalen’s highest mountain, is easily accessible in the summer thanks to the Vanndalsvatnet access road. The trail is considered one of Norway’s best summit trails for skiers because of the heavy snowfall that lies for a long time. Vangsen means ploughshare, and when you look at the mountain from the bothy at Mannen, the name makes perfect sense.
