Helgafossen is a great trail specially tailored to families at Skeikampen. The round trip covers around 4 km of flat terrain.
It takes about 1.5 hours from start to finish, unless you decide to linger at the waterfall. The terrain makes for easy walking and before you get to the Skeiselva river, you can hear it far off in the distance. In the old days, guests used to bathe in the river and at Helgafossen there was even a bathing hut so that guests could change into their swimming costumes with their modesty intact.
Skeikampen, at 1,123 metres above sea level, is not one of Norway’s highest mountains, but it is easily accessible. It takes approx. 1 hour on foot to reach the summit. The trail takes you on a scenic route along the Skeikampen ridge. The view from the top is outstanding, a gigantic panorama of the nearby mountains and the Peer Gynt Road, Jotunheimen and Dovrefjell, the golf course and the area round Skeikampen. The trail is 6-7 km long and takes 2-4 hours. It is a scenic walk which most people can manage. If you choose to go for the summit, there is a steep 350-metre climb over a distance of 1.5 km.
