Day trip within the UNESCO area Nærøyfjorden including a side trip to the glacier Fresvikbreen
Route: Engi - Jashaugbu
Total hiking time: 8 hours
"The finest ice-scenery in Europe", said the English mountaineer William Cecil Slingsby about the three wild ice-falls called Lokebreen, Odinbreen and Torsbreen which tumble down from the Jostedalsbreen glacier at the face of Austerdalsbreen. Here you can get just a taste of the wild glacier landscape without having to walk over the glacier itself.
The experienced glacier guides at Nigardsbreen offer a wide range of well-organised glacier hikes on the blue ice, both for children as young as 6 years old and for those who are looking for something more challenging. Daily tours from may to september. Buy tickets at Breheimsenteret glacier museum, Jostedalen.

Long live the Queen of Western Norway!
The well-known nickname for Lodalskåpa, Vestlandsdronninga (the Queen of Western Norway), speaks volumes about just how majestic this mountain is and how royal you will feel when you are at the top! The trip from Bødalsetra up to the cairn on the 2083-metre summit is a long but delightful journey from lush pastures to the snow-covered glacier. The trip does present its challenges: be prepared for some rigorous inclines, some walking on snow and ice, and some rather steep scrambling up the final approach. But once at the top you’ll be rewarded with a wide view over the National Park and an ice landscape you could hardly have imagined.
