The well-known nickname for Lodalskåpa, Vestlandsdronninga (the Queen of Western Norway), speaks volumes about just how majestic this mountain is and how royal you will feel when you are at the top! The trip from Bødalsetra up to the cairn on the 2083-metre summit is a long but delightful journey from lush pastures to the snow-covered glacier. The trip does present its challenges: be prepared for some rigorous inclines, some walking on snow and ice, and some rather steep scrambling up the final approach. But once at the top you’ll be rewarded with a wide view over the National Park and an ice landscape you could hardly have imagined.

"The finest ice-scenery in Europe", said the English mountaineer William Cecil Slingsby about the three wild ice-falls called Lokebreen, Odinbreen and Torsbreen which tumble down from the Jostedalsbreen glacier at the face of Austerdalsbreen. Here you can get just a taste of the wild glacier landscape without having to walk over the glacier itself.
If you have a desire to hike to Gaustatoppen, the best place to start is Stavsro. The path is 4km one way, and suitable for both children and adults.
There is no better view of the Nærøyfjord than the one you can experience from Bakkanosi. The journey from Jordalen is through easily negotiated terrain while the climb itself covers a demanding 800 meters.
