The Smelthytta museum is built on the ruins of the smelter that burnt down in 1975. Here you find exhibitions about the history of the Røros Copper Works, brought to life by models of mines, smelters and technical installations. These models give an excellent impression of the way in which mining operations were carried out and fascinate both children and adults.
Sleggveien street recounts an important part of Røros’ history. Travellers, craftsmen and casual labourers who had no homestead lived here and the houses have been restored in their traditional style by Røros museum’s craftsmen.
