Join us on an amazing adventure to Tempelfjord, were the Tuna Glacier lies frozen into the sea ice. In front of the towering walls of blue ice, the frozen fjord stretches towards the Tempel Mountain. Ring seals sunbathe on the ice here, and Polar bears are not uncommon!
It has been unusually warm this far in 2014, and as of February there is no fjord ice on the Tempelfjord. As such we are unable to reach the glacier wall in the fjord. This snowmobile tour will still be run, however we will use more time in the area used for hunitng and trapping by 'The King of Sassen', Hilmar Nøis. The guide will also explain and demonstrate different hunting techniques and help the participants imagine life as a lonely hunter in the Arctic.
- There is light in the dark -
“Snug in the Night lies the Town”, is from a poem about Svalbard. Now we take you out of town and into the Polar Night where all contours are erased and everything becomes shades of blue. The Blue Light here can vary in all different shades of blue and change considerably from a narrow valley to the open landscape. If you are lucky you will see the Northern Light flood over a starry sky.
We are equipped and briefed before heading up Todalen and west towards Barentsburg. The journey then takes us on to Colesdalen and along the coast past Kapp Laila and Kapp Heer before arriving at the Russian mining village.
Alternatively we go through Skiferdalen and across to Grøndalen before going down to Grønfjorden and Barentsburg.
