Kyrakampen, 979 m above sea level, is north-west of Austlid Fjellstue. The summit offers incredible views of Skeikampen and parts of the Peer Gynt Mountain Road, plus Jotunheimen and Rondane further in the distance.
The terrain is easy, with a little climbing up a steep slope just at the beginning. The trail starts at Austlid Fjellstue and runs down towards the car park by the water.
Prestkampen is the highest peak at Skeikampen, at 1,244 m above sea level. From the summit there is a wonderful view of large areas of the Gausdal Valley and Peer Gynt’s Kingdom, and towards Rondane in the north and Jotunheimen in the northwest. This is a more demanding route. The walk is 12-16 km long and takes 4-6 hours depending on the choice of trails. It is a route for seasoned walkers and not recommended for small children or persons without walking experience.
Helgafossen is a great trail specially tailored to families at Skeikampen. The round trip covers around 4 km of flat terrain.
It takes about 1.5 hours from start to finish, unless you decide to linger at the waterfall. The terrain makes for easy walking and before you get to the Skeiselva river, you can hear it far off in the distance. In the old days, guests used to bathe in the river and at Helgafossen there was even a bathing hut so that guests could change into their swimming costumes with their modesty intact.
This great trail around Skeikampen shows the varied nature that it has to offer. The trail is suitable for most people.
The Skeikampen Rundt trail is around 8 km long, over gently sloping terrain. The trail shows the different sides of Skei, from forest and bare rock to the highest point, with fantastic views of the mountain wilds. From here you can see Jotunheimen in the far north-west and Rondane to the north. The white peaks clearly stand out from the rest.
