Shopping in Røros

The village centre hosts a thriving arts and crafts community, workshops with outlets, quaint, little boutiques and good cafés and restaurants.

As you explore Røros' narrow streets, old courtyards and buildings, you will find an amazing number of charming shops and interesting workshops that together make one of the great joys of Røros.

Do not be surprised if the craftsmen and shopkeepers take a break from their work to chat with you. They may, however, ask as many questions as you do.

Arts and crafts

The town of Røros is famous for its high concentration of artists and craftsmen: Glass-blowers and wood carvers, furniture makers, silversmiths and blacksmiths, ceramists and painters.

Exploring the two main streets of Røros is for many one of the thrills of the visit. Here you will find modern stores like Moods of Norway, Frost, Lille Røffe, K4, Det Gule Huset, Det Grønne Huset, Hoppsalantan, Landmarks of Norway, Galleri Galåen and Euforia.

You will also find more traditional stores like Husfliden/Rørosdraktstuggu, Parfymeriet, Røros Sport and Soloppgangen with their famous Christmas loft.

In addition, you will find interesting craft stores in a surprisingly large number, and it is recommend that you visit Per Lysgaard and enter his colorful backyard full of ceramics, You can also visit Per Sverre Dahl, Storli Keramikk, Potteriet and Galleri Lystråle, and just a few minutes' walk from the main streets lies Røros Tweed with their factory outlet.

Local food

Røros is regarded as one of Norway's best areas for local food, and so shopping in Røros should include local produce. Did you for instance know that Røros has its owndeli in an old butcher shop?

Within walking distance of the centre of Røros lies Rørosrein, known from the TV show "Åtte årstider" on Norwegian TV. The company accepts visitors and have various reindeer products for sale.

Just outside of Røros you can visit Stensaas Reinsdyrslakteri, Torsvoll Hjort and Galåvolden Gård. All of them have their own shops where you can buy a variety of farm and wild game products.
