Art and culture in Trondheim
From the end of July to the start of August every year, the city celebrates the St. Olav's Festival, Norway's largest church and cultural festival. Trondheim Jazz Festival, Trondheim Chamber Music Festival Kosmorama International Film Festival, Pstereo and Nidaros Blues Festival are other annual, international festivals taking place in Trondheim.
Festivals and plays outside Trondheim
Hell Music Festival in the town of Hell (30 kilometres north of Trondheim), Storåsfestivalen (74 kilometres south of Trondheim) and Molde International Jazz Festival in Molde (220 kilometres southwest of Trondheim) are also worth a visit.
During the summer outdoor plays and operas are very popular. The most famous are Korsvikaspillet (every other year), The St. Olav Drama at Stiklestad (120 kilometres north for Trondheim) and The Midnight Opera Olav Engelbrektsson at Steinvikholm (50 kilometres north of Trondheim).
There are a number of quality galleries in Trondheim where you can enjoy the works of art, or buy them.
Trondheim Symphony Orchestra gives weekly concerts in the Olavshallen.
Football
Trondheim’s football team Rosenborg Ballklubb (RBK), has been the most successful football team in Norway for the last 20 years - winning 20 league championships and nine cup championships. The team has several times qualified to play in the Champions League.
Guided tours of Lerkendal Stadium, where they play their home matches, are available from late June.
Walking
Bakklandet is a cosy district, characterised by wooden architecture, where you will find small, specialist shops and where you can enjoy a cup coffee at one of the small, pleasant cafés.
Summer as well as winter, Bymarka entices visitors with the beauty and variety of its countryside. There is a varied and well developed network of trails.
Walking trails can be found in several places locally. Ladestien (approximately 14 kilometres in length) follows the coast along Lade Peninsula, while Nidelvstien makes for a pleasant walk along the Nidelven River.

Fishing
The Nidelven River is one of Norway's best salmon and trout rivers. Most fishing locations are open to the public. Some stretches are even free.
The Trampe bicycle lift
Trondheim is the first city in the world with a lift specifically designed for cyclists. The Trampe bicycle lift, developed in Trondheim, goes up the steep hill at Brubakken near Gamle Bybro, and takes you from the bridge and almost all the way up to the Kristiansten Fort.
