Key facts about Asker and Bærum

Just west of Oslo lie Asker and Bærum, 2 of the 22 municipalities in Akershus county.

Akershus

Akershus consists of a total of 22 municipalities, which form a green ring around the capital city. Akershus is one of the country's smallest counties in terms of area, covering just 4,918 square kilometres. However, the county is one of the largest in terms of number of inhabitants – more than 500,000 people live here, which is over 10 per cent of the country's population.

Akershus is a county of great contrasts. The country's leading high-tech resource centres, research institutions, consulting agencies, offices and service companies and the main airport at Gardermoen are located here.

At the same time, however, Akershus is the country's largest grain-growing county, has large outdoor recreational areas and rich natural resources. The coast along the Oslo fjord, rural villages, forests and pastures offer exciting experiences, all just a short distance from the capital.

Akershus is divided into three regions:

Asker and Bærum

Asker and Bærum comprises the western part of the region, where you will find the Bærums Verk trading post, Henie-Onstad Art Centre, idyllic Vollen and the urban areas of Sandvika and Asker town centre.

Follo

Follo is situated directly south of the outskirts of Oslo and reaches almost as far as Moss. In Follo you will find the small seaside towns of Son, Hvitsten and Drøbak with their old wooden houses, as well as TusenFryd theme park, Oscarsborg Fortress and Norwegian Outlet.

Romerike

Romerike is the region north of Oslo, where you will find Oslo Airport and Norway Trade Fairs. Romerike offers a varied cultural landscape, deep forests and one of Northern Europe's largest inland deltas, in addition to Fetsund Lenser lumber museum and the building in which the Norwegian constitution was born – Eidsvoll 1814.
