National Parks

Located midway between Oslo and Bergen are two of Norway's most accessible national parks; Hardangervidda National Park and Hallingskarvet National Park. Here you will find plateaus, waterfalls, rivers, and a rich wildlife. There are several mountain roads and well-marked and well-trodden paths if you want to walk or cycle. In Hardangervidda National Park you can experience Europe's largest reindeer herd, and perhaps be lucky enough to see both snowy owls and arctic foxes.

Cycling

A multitude of trails and roads are suitable for adults and children, new beginners and more advanced cyclists, as well as training and touring cyclists. With a network of good mountain farm roads and trails, Hallingdal is among Norway's prime areas for cycling trips in the mountains.

Nesbyen is a popular location for off-road and trail cycling.

Ål also provides great conditions for off-road cycling, trail cycling and cycling on gravel-paved mountain roads. There is a comprehensive network of mountain roads due to working farms and waterway development. This makes the mountains easily accessible to everyone, and alongside Golsfjellet, this area is among Norway's most popular areas for mountain cycling. Geilo is also one of the country's leading cycling regions and has much to offer within family, trail and off-road cycling.

Rallarvegen (The Navvies' Road)
With its 50 miles of mountainous scenery, Rallarvegen has been elected Norway's finest cycling route by the travel magazine "Reise og Ferie", and leads from Haugastøl via Finse and Hallingskeid all the way to Flåm at the bottom of Aurlandsfjorden. There, you may choose to continue on to Voss. On a trip along Rallarvegen you will experience tall mountains and wide landscapes all the way up to 4,268 feet above sea level. The road leads through a lush and challenging landscape that offers culture, history and unique outdoor experiences. Rallarvegen.com offers all-inclusive packages.

Fishing in Hallingdal - Realm of the Trout

Hallingdal is the realm of the trout. There are a multitude of different opportunities for fishing there, from fishing in small rivers and lakes in the mountains, to the Hallingdal River itself. Fishing licences are sold at overnight accommodation enterprises, tourist information offices and in sports shops. You can also make use of inatur.no (Norwegian only), where fishing licences may be ordered by SMS, QR code and on the web.

Family Parks - Experience Hallingdal

Hallingdal has family parks that offer unique opportunities to get close to animals such as bears, elk, reindeer and other Norwegian animals. Some of the parks have challenging activities, arranged for both children and youths, that focus on physical mastery. All the parks offer a 50% discount for a child's second, third and fourth visit.

The Bear Park, Flå
Here you may get close to bears, lynx, elk, deer, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits and chickens, and during the everyday feeding, the keeper will teach you about the animals. The Bear Park has 1,350 square miles of activity and play areas, both inside and outdoors.

Langedrag Nature Park
Langedrag Nature Park is situated like a castle at 3,280 feet above sea level, and was founded on the philosophy that nature is our best teacher. 20 species and about 300 individual animals are found here. See wolves and lynx up close, visit Arctic foxes, elk and reindeer. Enjoy the goats, rabbits, horses, sheep, wild boar, cows and yak. Try horseback riding, the climbing park or dog sledding, and take part in the Arctic fox camp.

Hallingdal Holiday Park
Hallingdal Holiday Park is the largest indoor playground between Oslo and Bergen. Climb, slide, crawl, hop, dive, roll, swing on ropes, run, shout and laugh. Climb to the top of an 36-feet-high playground. Afterwards, get to know Geir the Goat and other friendly animals at a farm open to visitors. The park offers events with activities, with speed, oxygen, movement, wind in your hair and all in all energy far beyond the ordinary.

Tropicana Badeland
One of Norway's largest combined indoor and outdoor bathing facilities. Always at 86 degrees F, and cold drinks are available at the bar. Mega slides, wave pool, grottos and the Wild River are incredibly fun for large and small children. A separate play jungle is available for the youngest, where the water is only 13 inches deep.

Living museums, culture and history

You can follow the history in the landscape and towns from the Middle Ages to the era of electricity: Agriculture, boat-building, traditional and innovative trade, art and music. Stave churches and historic roads and bridges, cultural trails, museums, farms and mountain farms that are open to visitors, as are the power plant, factories, galleries and festivals.

Gardnos Meteorittpark (Gardnos Meteorite Park)
Gardnos Meteorittpark is one of Europe's most easily accessible meteorite craters. Here you can touch a real meteorite and listen to the exciting story of what happened at Gardnos almost 546 million years ago.
