Konventionsgården

This is the place that really put Moss on the historical map. The event took place 14 August 1814, when the Moss Convention was signed by King Christian Fredrik of Norway and Crown Prince Carl Johan of Sweden. The Convention ensured that the Norwegian constitution was safeguarded throughout the entire period of Norway’s union with Sweden. It also contributed significantly to a peaceful dissolution of this union in 1905. Konventionsgården is still privately owned, and is used as offices and for representational purposes. Konventionssalen (the Convention Hall) is therefore only available by prior arrangement and when accompanied by a guide. Please contact the tourist information for more details.

Torderød Gård

The Torderød Estate was cleared already during the Viking era, whilst the current estate with the Torderød Mansion was built as a summer residence by David Chrystie Sr between 1758 and 1760. The building is listed, and the Torderød Park is the district’s only purely baroque garden. The beautiful premises are hired out to parties. Every Sunday from the end of June to the beginning of September, Moss husflidlag (the local handicraft club) runs a summer shop and café from 12 am to 3 pm. At 3 pm Torderød Gårds Venner (Friends of Torderød Gård) conduct an interesting guided tour of the main building and the park.

Beaches

You are free to choose between almost 50 different beaches in and around Moss. Some with bare rock faces, others with sand or grassy hills. In Moss town centre, you will find "Sjøbadet", "Fiske" and "Søly" located on the Jeløya side, next to the Bastø ferry landing and the canal. If you prefer more rural surroundings, you will probably favour the beaches on the peninsula of Jeløya, in the charming village of Son or at Larkollen.
