Tour suggestions in Moss

The Moss region has an abundance of trails and paths, and you do not have to be in top shape to do some walking or biking.

Kyststien (the Coastal Path)

Kyststien is a well-signposted path winding through scenic countryside and wooded hills, along beaches and through towns. There are many lovely look-out points across the Oslofjord along the way. Maps can be purchased from the local tourist information

Round trip by bike around Southern Jeløya

The starting point is the canal between Moss and the peninsula of Jeløya, and then continue down the first road on your left along the canal. At the far end of the canal park, as the road turns right along the coastline, you will find the statue of The Norwegian Lady looking across the Atlantic in the direction of her sister, who stands in the same posture on Virginia Beach, USA. Next to the statue you will find Sjøbadet, a beach situated practically in the town centre.

You then proceed along a street called Sjøgaten, which eventually turns up towards the street Bråtengaten. As you approach Bråtengaten, keep left and follow Bråtengaten past the Fretex building.

As you approach the street called Sølyalleen, turn left into Strandpromenaden. Continue along this road past the Søly Marina. At Framnes, where the road makes a sharp turn to the right away from the sea, continue straight ahead and enter the bike path that runs along the coastline. The path is accessible by wheelchairs and has a gravel surface, so biking with a trailer is also possible.

As you round Reiertangen, a serene cultural landscape opens up and the fresh sea air tickles your nose. The trail runs along the beach into the cove known as Reierbukta and then continues inland across the fields before turning southwest. The view is dominated by the trees that encircle the avenue leading to Alby. Galleri F15 at Alby is worth a visit. Here you can enjoy both contemporary art as well as the famous Alby sweetroll (the gallery is closed on Mondays).

At car park by Alby you can refill your drinking bottle with pure water from the local spring. There are several paths heading southwest from this parking lot, and those accessible by bicycles are marked with signs. The lush forests of this area are home to many exotic plants and trees imported from warmer climates, and the atmosphere is quite special and soothing.

If you are looking for another artistic experience, take the road north and at the end of the avenue you will be able to see Røed Gaard, which is the first farm on the left. Røed Gaard is home to several artists who produce and exhibit their work here. The beautiful rose garden and majestic mansion can be admired here, and coffee may be purchased from the café. If you are still hungry for more art, you can visit Gallery Varden, situated close to Stubben, with a panoramic view over the Oslofjord and the southern part of Jeløya (the gallery is closed in July).

The route then proceeds back towards Moss town centre. You have several choices for your return route. You can choose Tronvikveien or Helgerødgaten, both of which are normal roads with sidewalks, one of the smaller, parallel streets, or you can return by the same route as you came.

The terrain on Jeløya is slightly undulated but with no steep hills. The trip route can be described as light and easy. Distance: Approximately five kilometres.
