There are several great hiking and biking routes with varying degrees of difficulty. Up in the mountains the routes run along mountain roads.
The gentle landscape invites you to go fishing. The terrain is easy, and there are plenty of ponds and lakes to choose from. Hallingdalselva River in Nesbyen is also a favorite among anglers.
Go canoeing along the Hallingdalselva River from Nesbyen to Flå. Gerd's Canoe Rental will drive you to/pick you up wherever you wish. Fagerhøy Fjellstue and Ranten Hotell have canoes and rowing boats for hire on the idyllic Lake Mykingsjøen.
Nesbyen is considered one of Norway’s warmest places during summer, and holds the Norwegian heat record of 96.1 degrees Fahrenheit. Pick a spot along Rukkedøla River, or find a mountain pond all to youself. Trytetjern is a local favourite spot.
Nesbyen is the "old town" in Hallingdal. The village was the administration centre in the valley in the nineteenth and much of the twentieth century. You will find old houses in an idyllic part of the village, just by the museum and in the middle of the modern business quarters. Cosy cafés and galleries.
Hallingdal ride- og hestesportsenter will be opening in the autumn of 2008. Rides, riding instruction, stable rental and equestrian events are some of the things that will be available.
A 9-hole golf course will open in 2009.
