Nightlife in Oslo

Oslo's nightlife has something special for everyone, whether you prefer beers at the pub, listening to live music or clubbing into the wee hours.

Each neighbourhood has its own feel and attracts different types of crowds, but the atmosphere is friendly and inviting wherever you go.

City center

In the area around Karl Johans gate, you can move to whatever is most popular at the moment. The area also boasts some of the best jazz and blues venues in the city, including Nasjonal Jazzscene, Herr Nilsen and Buckleys.

Grønland

On the east side of town you find you find laid-back clubs with varied music offerings, including Dattera til Hagen and Sawol. Grønland is also the place to go if you are looking for the cheapest beer in Oslo.

Youngstorget

The area around Youngstorget square has good bars with an alternative/rock-oriented music profile, including Café Mono and Revolver. The area is also home to the concert venues Rockefeller, John DEE and Sentrum Scene.

Grünerløkka

Many cafés turn into hot spots at night at Grünerløkka, which boasts the beer pubs Grünerløkka Brygghus and Schouskjelleren Mikrobryggeri. Concerts at places like Parkteatret and Blå are also an important part of the borough's nightlife.

Frogner and Majorstua

If you like your clubs fancy and want to party in a see and be seen environment, head west of the city centre. Around Solli plass you find some of the city's trendiest nightspots, including Monkey Bar, Skaugum and Raspoutine.

Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen

Osloites ranging from business people to gallerists come to enjoy a drink along the waterfront at Aker Brygge or Tjuvholmen. In summer the bars open thousands of outdoor seats, and the crowds gather to enjoy cold drinks and fjord views.

A guide to Oslo's nightlife.
