Attractions in Ringerike

Ringerike is a popular recreation area all year round and an eldorado for those who enjoy fishing, especially for trout and whitefish.

In May/June there is the Pike Festival and there is crayfishing in the Tyrifjord in August. You can also enjoy local artists and craftwork in several galleries, both in the town of Hønefoss and the surroundings.

Hadeland Glassverk (glassworks)

Hadeland Glassverk is definitely Hadeland’s greatest draw – and one of Norway's most visited tourist attractions - beautifully situated at the south end of the Randsfjord.

At Hadeland Glassverk, founded in 1762, you can admire glass-blowers practicing their handicraft the same way as they did in the 1700s. The entire area is like a cosy village – with exciting shops and activities for the whole family.

Kistefos-Museet

The former Kistefos Wood Pulp Mill is today an industrial museum and the only intact Scandinavian wood pulp mill. Besides presenting an important chapter of Norwegian industrial history, the Kistefos museum offers annual art exhibitions  by both Norwegian and international artists.

Krokskogen Forest

Krokkleiva is a famous preserved road along which artists, kings and other people have travelled for ages. It is part of the old King's Road to Bergen, which runs through Krokskogen to Bærums Verk just outside Oslo.

Signs lead you to King's View, one of Eastern Norway's finest views. It was named after King Karl Johan's visit there in the middle of the nineteenth century.

Bønsnes Church

The church which is situated close to the Tyrifjord was built around the twelfth century. According to the saga, St. Olav grew up in this area.

The Pilgrims' Path

Stretches through the entire municipality and most parts follow medieval roads. Some parts of the path follow the same route as the old King's Road to Bergen. The path was finished and opened in 1995 during the 1,000-year celebration of St. Olav, who was born in 995.

Halvdan's Mound

It is claimed that one part of Halvdan the Black is buried here. Halvdan's mound is on the property of the farm Stein. On the farm you will also find ruins of a church from the middle ages.

Veien Kulturminnepark

Veien Kulturminnepark (Veien Cultural Heritage Park) is one of the biggest burial grounds from the Early Iron Age in eastern Norway. Today the burial ground consists of 107 grave mounds. Traces from the past tell a much bigger story, though. In the fields, south of the burial ground, excavations have uncovered several flat graves, cooking pits, fireplaces and four longhouses. One of the longhouses is reconstructed and in June 2009 a new museum opened, housing an exhibition which shows a woman's life in three different time periods, the Iron Age, the 18th century and today.

Ringerikes Museum

Situated in the 400-year-old house for the priests at Norderhov Church, Ringerikes Museum is surrounded by a beautiful garden.

Kjerraten i Åsa

Around the year  1850, Mr. Peder Anker built a transport system for timber upwards the river from Steinsfjorden to Storflåtan in Nordmarka with a height difference around 400 metres. You can also walk along the path of the old timber-transport system.

Bjørke Farm

Pick and buy your own corn, vegetables and flowers, from August to September. Visitors are welcome to Bjørke farm all year by appointment. You can hire a cabin here.

Mo Farm

This is the fairy-tale farm where fairy tale collector, clergyman and poet Jørgen Moe was born and grew up. Visitors are welcome to Mo farm all year by appointment.

Riddergaarden

Riddergaarden is an old farm from the seventeenth century situated down town Hønefoss. Here you can leave the noise from the town and enjoy the quietness. Open during summer.
