Where to stay in Rjukan

Hotels

Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell
At 2,952 feet above sea level, in the Gausta area with a beautiful view to the Gaustatoppen mountain peak, you will find Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell. The hotel has 97 rooms, a recreation centre, a pleasant dining room, bar and large function room with live music six days a week. There is also a playroom and billiards/TV room. 

Skinnarbu Høyfjellshotell
3,280 feet above sea level, right on the threshold of the Hardangervidda National Park, lies Skinnarbu Høyfjellshotell. The hotel has 88 rooms, a swimming pool, conference facilities, a bar and a restaurant which is famed for its delicious home cooking based on local traditions. 

Park Hotell
In the centre of Rjukan you will find Park Hotell with 39 large and family-friendly rooms, as well as a restaurant and a fully licensed bar.

Tuddal Høyfjellshotell
Situated in Tuddal, on the sunnyside of Gaustatoppen, Tuddal Høyfjellshotell offers 20 rooms, dragon heads, ghosts, antiques, intimate atmosphere, home made cooking and wonderful views. The hotel buildings are from 1895, and it is said that this is the best-preserved wooden hotel in Norway.

Mountain lodges/hostels

Kvitåvatn Fjellstoge/Rjukan Youth Hostel
At 2,952 feet above sea level, in the Gausta area with fantastic views of Kvitaavatn lake and the Gaustatoppen mountain, you will find Kvitåvatn Fjellstoge/Gaustatoppen Vandrerhjem. During the summer the main accommodation is in old log cabins for 2-6 people. The hostel offers 22 rooms for 2-5 people.

Rjukan Gjestegård is a bed & breakfast situated in the centre of Rjukan. They offer double rooms that hold hotel standard, as well as dorms with shared facilities. 

Rjukan Fjellstue
This intimate and cosy hostel has 41 rooms, lounges with open fireplaces, a TV lounge, conference room for 50 people and ski hire (also children's sledges). Rjukan Fjellstue is fully licensed. You will find Rjukan Fjellstue 6 miles west of Rjukan town centre.

Cabins

Rjukan Hytteby
The cabins are situated close to the centre of Rjukan. Rjukan Hytteby offers 10 cabins which are copies of the first workers' houses built in Rjukan during the town's industrialisation at the beginning of the twentieth century. Each cabin is equipped for 5 persons.

Kvitåvatn Fjellhytter
35 cabins at 2,952 feet above sea level, all with a view of Gaustatoppen mountain. Kvitåvatn Fjellhytter has high standard cabins with 8-9 beds.

Gaustatoppen Booking
30 cabins and 40 apartments with 6-20 beds. All situated in the Gaustablikk area. All cabins at Gaustatoppen Booking are modern and well equipped. Some of the cabins have Internet access.

Hogstul hytter
10 cabins set in quiet surroundings in Tuddal, 1 mile from the main road, and 45 minutes from Rjukan. For booking and more information, please email hogstul@online.no.

Cabins and lodges belonging to the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT)

A number of cabins and lodges in Rjukan and the surrounding mountains are owned by DNT. 

Kalhovd Tourist Cabin
You will find Kalhovd Tourist cabin 3,608 feet above sea level, on the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. This staffed lodge can offer 85 beds in rooms sleeping 2-4 people. Shower/toilet is accessible from the corridors. There is also a sauna, and the cabin is licensed for selling beer and wine. In the cabin you will find a kiosk, and in the morning you can be served breakfast. The cabin has à la carte during daytime and dinner in the evening.

Mårbu Tourist Cabin 
Mårbu is idyllically situated at the northern end of Mårvann lake, on the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. Mårbu is staffed during the summer and is ideal for families. The cabin has 46 beds.

The Helberghytta cabin
This cabin lies 3,608 feet above sea level, at the gateway to the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. The cabin is self-served and you will need a key to enter. 

Stordalsbu
Stordalsbu is situated in Stordalen on Hardangervidda, with a great view over the many lakes in the area. Please note that Stordalsbu is closed from 19 August to 1 October due to reindeer hunting. The cabin is self-served and you will need a key to enter.

Gaustatoppen Turisthytte
This cabin was built in 1893 and has the most fantastic views from the Gaustatoppen mountain peak at a height of 6,069 feet. The cabin was built from natural rock from the summit itself and was extended and refurbished inside a short while ago. Gaustatoppen Turisthytte has 9 beds for hire and must be booked in advance. 

Lufsjå Turisthytte
At 4,035 feet above sea level, on the southeast side of Lake Lufsjå you will find Lufsjå - a good starting point for exploring Hardangervidda. There are 2 cabins with a total of 16 beds. Good standard, self-served, and you need a key to enter.

Camp sites

Blefjell Camping
Family camp site at Sandvatn lake in Hovin. Blefjell Camping lies 37 miles from Rjukan.

Rjukan Hytte- og Caravanpark
Stay in well equipped, winter insulated cabins, sleeping up to 8 at Rjukan Hytte and Caravanpark The camp site is located 4 miles east from Rjukan.

Sandviken Camping
Family camp site at Tinnsjø lake. Sandviken Camping lies 18 miles east of the centre of Rjukan.

Sjøtveit Camping
Family camp site next to Tinnsjø lake. Sjøtveit Camping lies about an hour's drive from Rjukan. 

Tinnsjø Kro og Camping
Tinnsjø Kro is located idyllic in the small village of Mæl, approximately 6 miles east of Rjukan.
