Do you dream of white snow as far as the eye can see? Do you want to put on your skis and get out on the newly groomed ski tracks? Or perhaps rush down the ski slopes in the alpine facilities? Perhaps you prefer a slow ride in a horse sleigh, or even the speed and excitement of a snowmobile. No matter what you like, there are plenty of opportunities if you choose to spend some winter days in Gol and Golsfjellet.
If you wish to combine shopping with some time on the ski slopes, Gol Skipark (Norwegian only) offers great experiences on the sunny side of the valley, a five minute drive from the town center. Gol Skipark also has a well known terrainpark with a lot of park elements, always in a great condition. This ski center has seen a lot of activity since changing owners in 2013, and extensive works are in progress to expand and improve the facilities. For details, please email Gol Skipark.
Up on Golsfjellet Mountain, you will find Storefjell Ski- and Sledging Center with a big ski-play area and a separate sledge slope. Nearby in Bualie Golsfjellet Alpine Center boasts a new terrain park and an indoor cabin.
The ski centers are also great starting points for cross-country skiing, with direct access to the trails.
Here you will find a total of six lifts with 17 slopes, several terrain parks and ski play areas.
Whether you just want a slow ski trip to enjoy the sun and snow, or prefer a good workout, Gol and Golsfjellet have ski tracks to suit you.
There are more than 300 kilometers of well-groomed ski tracks here in varied and family-friendly terrain, with no difficult areas. Since most of the tracks start in the mountains, you do not have to tire yourself out before the trip starts.
The cross-country tracks at Nystølsfjellet are now connected to Golsfjellet. This area is south at the mountain, and concerns the area around Nystølsvarden, the highest mountain in Gol, 1,296 meters above sea level.
The grill cabins at Golsfjellet are always open, and everyone is welcome to stop by. A perfect place to have an indoor barbecue, whether you want to take shelter from bad weather, or just relax next to the fireplace. Bring your own food.
Feel the snow spurt across your face while well-trained dogs pull you and your sledge over a snow-covered mountain plateau. Dog sledding is a great way to experience the nature and is fun for both children and adults.
Horse-drawn sleigh rides
You can really enjoy life by going on horse-drawn sledge rides; listening to the sleigh bells ringing, while sitting under a fur rug, through snow-covered landscape.
Feel the adrenaline kick in while sitting on a snowmobile going through snow-covered landscapes at full speed. Gol Motor og Fritidspark also offers activity packages with many different activities, and the possibility to have food/drinks in a lavvo during the trip.
Try the ice-skating rank Glitre Skøytestadion, one of Norway's fastest tracks on natural ice. Open during the day and evening.
Or how about joining a qualified guide ice climbing in Golsjuvet? Guiding and courses for both beginners and advanced climbers are available.
If you wish for quieter activities you can go ice fishing at Søråsen. Here there are many areas where you can fish for free until Easter.
Spa and wellness
Enjoy exclusive attention and treatment at the Oline spa and wellness center at Pers Resort.
Tune out and recharge your batteries in the Romana relaxation area. Soak in hot bubbles, read the morning papers and enjoy drinks and fresh fruit whilst relaxing completely.
Shopping in some of the little shops in the town center is always a good alternative to outdoor pursuits in bad weather.
For more cultural experiences you can have a look at Oset Mountain Church and the collection of farm antiques in the Guild Hall in Oset. In the town center you can visit Skinnfellmakern where they follow a tradition that is over 1,000 years old, printing on leather and skin products.
If the snow is not wet enough, then the swimming pools are many. A couple of the hotels at Golsfjellet have swimming pools and play areas. In the town center, the Tropicana Swimming Pool has southern temperatures all year round.
