Hiking in Nesbyen

The large and kind mountain areas around Nesbyen offer many opportunities for hiking. Here you can experience both mountains and forests.

The main best hiking season in Nesbyen is July - August. In June the terrain can be wet in the high mountains. In September there can be both a summer and a fall climate, but nice fall colours. From around mid-October there can be snow.

Cross the river at Imlan and follow the trail southwest. Splendid views most of the hike, especially from Nordre Rantetjern to Øyvatn and Hallingnatten, the highest peak in the municipality of Nes. On clear days you can see from Hardangerjøkulen in the west to Hallingskarvet, Reineskarvet, Hemsedalsfjellet and Skogshorn in the east. Beyond that you can catch a glimpse of Jotunheimen. Gaustatoppen’s characteristic shape towers in the south.
