Winter in Stranda

Stranda ski resort is located in the Sunnmøre Alps in western Norway. It offers some of the best off-piste skiing opportunities in Scandinavia.

Alpine skiing and snowboarding

Several ski lifts and many downhill runs of varying difficulty, a children's area, a terrain park and perhaps the best off-piste opportunities in Scandinavia await at Stranda, providing something for just about every member of the family.

Parts of the resort have flood lights for evening skiing, and a top snow-making system ensures stable conditions throughout the season. At the resort you will find mile after mile of prepared tracks for cross-country skiing, as well as opportunities for ski touring from the ski center and up to the untouched mountain peaks surrounding the fjords.

The gondola takes you up to 3,484 feet above sea level, and the restaurant at the top station serves snacks, lunch, dinner and local specialities.

For the snowboarders, the terrain park at Stranda is located in the middle of "Furset", on the right side when driving towards the center of Stranda.

For the children

The children's area, The Labb & Line Park, with a slope of only seven degrees, is an excellent area for those new to skiing or snowboarding. Here you will also find benches, so you can sit and watch the kids practise their newly acquired skills with the rest of the family. This is a good supplement to the "school lift", which is for slightly older children, and those who have been skiing for longer. A lean-to is available to get out of the wind, and the two on-site hearths can be used for barbequeing.

Ski passes

Check out the latest ski pass prices.

Children under the age of seven ski for free when wearing a helmet. In Stranda you must buy a key card for all lift passes, if you do not have one already. The key card can be reused the next time you are in Stranda, or at many other destinations.

The Alpepass is a joint ski pass that covers a group of ski destinations on the west coast of Norway. It gives access to a large number of ski lifts, runs, slopes, several terrain parks, free-riding, and of course lots of snow and fun.

Ski hire

The ski rental shop in Stranda has a wide selection of top quality alpine and snowboard equipment for hire. Powder and park skis are also available.

Information on ski rental prices can be found here.

Ski school

Use your ski holiday to improve your skiing skills, become a better skier and have more fun. Instruction in both skiing and snowboarding is available at Stranda, with experienced ski instructors who arrange a tailor-made programme for each individual's level.

Instructors are on hand every Saturday and Sunday, and on weekdays on request. Call +47 45 50 00 82 or email skipost@strandafjellet.no for more information and booking.

Cross-country skiing

Stranda has about 15 miles of groomed trails, all with good, wide tracks suitable for anyone with basic skiing skills. Most of the trails are found down in the valley, but when weather permits, an additional long cross-country track is also prepared on the top of the mountain. It starts at the top station at the "Furset" lift, and goes in a loop in varied terrain. Take the lift to the top (remember to buy a ticket for the lift at the ticket office), and enjoy a wonderful cross-country experience.

Off-piste skiing

The Sunnmøre Alps are known for their excellent off-piste opportunities. In the perfect conditions, nothing can compare with this experience. The best way to enjoy off-piste skiing is to hire a professional guide who will know the risk of avalanches and how to react if something goes wrong. Remember that off-piste is always at your own risk.

Dining and nightlife

There are three restaurants in Stranda: The Pavilion at Furset and the Pavilion on Roald (both with great fjord views), and a cafe at the bottom of the slopes.

Where to stay

If you are heading to Stranda to ski, you can choose from several exciting hotels in the region, such as Stranda Hotel, or in nearby Ålesund or Valldal. You can also stay within walking distance of the slopes in nice, modern cabins of all sizes.
