If you enjoy fishing, why not rent one of the many cabins or large converted boathouses close to the sea? Many cater specifically for sea anglers, with good boats and facilities for preparing and storing the catch. Your hosts will be happy to tell you about the best local fishing places.
You can catch most types of fish, such as pollack, cod, mackerel, saithe, ling, tusk, Atlantic halibut, wolf-fish, eel, and so on. There is also an abundance of crabs.
Fishing is best in the spring and autumn, but there is plenty of fish to be caught all year round.
Walking, hiking and rambling
Walk to the tops of natural monuments such as Alden, Lihesten or the sea cliffs at Hornelen. Or opt for one of the many North Sea trails. There are many walking areas and trails, and the combination of ocean, sea and mountain guarantees magnificent views and wonderful natural scenery. Maps and more information can be obtained from the local tourist offices.
FjordKysten is perfect for water activities such as canoe paddling, sea rafting, diving and surfing. Professional and enthusiastic activity and adventure companies offer a range of great experiences.
A number of boats – restored fishing smacks and, not least, the old fjord boat M/S "Atløy" – can be hired for sea angling or adventure trips. In the summer months from June to August you can also join one of the regular day trips for island hopping, lighthouse safaris, boat trips to the Selje Monastery, Kinn Church and other popular boat trips.
The coast of FjordKysten is ideal for cycling with easy, rolling countryside and little motor traffic. Take your cycle on an island hopping trip – or combine a cycling trip with walking in delightful terrain. And when your legs are tired and you need a rest, simply jump on the mail boat or ferry to the next little island community or fjord idyll.
Riding trips where the fjord meets the open sea out at Værlandet, or on historical trails on the island of Svanøy, are some of the activities along the FjordKysten coast that appeal for those who enjoy riding.
Health and well-being
One of Scandinavia's most unusual spas/Thalasso centres is in Selje. There you can take algae therapy, wave massages and spa treatments out beside the sea.
