Where to stay in the Nordmøre and Romsdal area

Fishermen's cabins, traditional farms, a rustic hotel by the coast or in one of the fjord cities. The region offers a wide selection of accommodation.

In the area around Kristiansund, Molde, Åndalsnes, the Trollstigen Road and the Atlantic Road you will find a wide range of accommodation - everything from luxurious hotels to rustic seaside accommodation, pleasant guesthouses and a multitude of cabins, holiday houses, fishermen's cabins ("rorbu") and camp sites.

All the hotels offer special weekend prices all year, breakfast included. Most of the cabins are based on self cooking and are fully equipped with shower/toilet.

Some periods of the year are more popular than others, so to be sure, please book your stay as early as possible. During the festivals and the summer season (May-September), it can be a little harder to find available accommodation. The rest of the year, it is usually easy to find places that have vacant cabins if you arrive without having booked in advance.

Fishermen's cabins

Originally built as accommodation for visiting fishermen during busy times at the fisheries of Lofoten, fishermen's cabins, or "rorbuer" as they are called in Norwegian, are today immensely popular both amongst Norwegian and foreign holidaymakers. You are advised to book well in advance, especially if you are coming to Norway in July and August.

Camping with a view

In the lush, beautiful valleys of the inland region, salmon and trout fishing are easily accessible. The numerous camping cabins that are found in the Nordmøre and Romsdal region are popular with foreign tourists. Many camp sites are well-suited for children, offering playgrounds and activities such as fishing.

Farms

Are you looking for a different, down to earth and exciting holiday? Why not stay at a traditional summer pasture farm (called sæter, or seter, in Norwegian) or on a farm? The location of the seter is often spectacular, in scenic surroundings in mountain valleys. Farm animals such as cows and goats are often close by, much to the delight of children. Far away from daily life, you will be able to take in the silence of nature, marvel at the vibrant colours all around you, and enjoy a relaxing holiday.

The summer farms serve locally produced food such as sour cream, butter, freshly fished trout, delicious meals seasoned with fresh herbs, homebaked bread and homemade butter. These farms make great base camps for short and long hikes in the area.

Mountain cabins

The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) has a range of cabins in the mountains and by the fjords. These cabins offer low cost accommodation for both members and non-members of the association.
