What to do in Stryn and Nordfjord

In Nordfjord you will find your natural playground. Go hiking, biking, glacier walking, surf, go skiing, ride a fjord horse, or try your luck fishing.

Walking and hiking

You will find more than 230 walking trails in varied terrain in Stryn and Nordfjord. Choose between summit trips, nature trails or cultural trails. The mountains here range from heights of a few hundred metres to almost 2,000 metres. Read more about hiking in Stryn and Nordfjord.

Glacier activities and summer skiing

The Jostedalsbreen Glacier is the biggest glacier in mainland Europe. Take a guided walk on the Brenndalsbreen Glacier, and experience the intense blue colour of the ice and living formations in the glacier at close hand. You can also try a glacier safari in rafting boats on the lake in front of the Briksdalsbreen Glacier. At Stryn Sommerski you can go skiing from late May to June/July. 

Cycling

You can ride on wide roads, or on narrow and steep paths. Along the fjord or up the valleys. In the inner part of the fjord between tall mountains and blue glaciers, or along the adventurous coast line. You can also join a guided mountain bike tour.

Harpefossen Bike Park offers a downhill trail area in Eid. Take the ski lift at Furuhogane to the starting point for the downhill track. Jumps, drops, slopes and bridges also offer exciting challenges for the adventurous and experienced rider. Bicycle rental is available several places, and you will find more information about this at nordfjord.no/cycling.

Fishing and guided boat trips

Nordfjord is an eldorado for fishingThe Nordfjord is "the fjord with the seven rivers". The first visitors were the British so-called "fishing lords". Various fishing alternatives are available to visitors. Skarstein Fjordcruise ("Isabella") offer fishing/sightseeing boat trips.

Water activities

The ocean, roaring rivers, calm lakes and the Nordfjord are ideal for a range of activities on or in the water. Choose between white-water rafting, swimming, surfingKayaking/canoeing and scuba diving.

Riding a fjord horse

The Norwegian fjord horse is Nordfjord’s own breed of horse, and there are several places in Nordfjord where riding enthusiasts can enjoy beautiful scenery on horseback. Riding lessons, day trips and riding camps are all available. There are three 9-hole golf courses in Nordfjord. Imagine lush green fairways surrounded by bubbling rivers and towering mountains. 

Climbing and Via Ferrata

Several places in Nordfjord offer climbing, either outdoors in a via ferrata, climbing areas, bouldering on giant rocks in the Oldedalen Valley, or indoors on climbing walls. Try the spectacular Via Ferrata Loen where youclimb high above the fjord, surrounded by the mountains and the Jostedalsbreen National Park. The new suspension bridge across a 160 metre deep canyon is 120 metres long, and is the longest via ferrata bridge in Europe. 

Local culture

Stryn and Nordfjord's cultural heritage, with its long-standing folk music and arts and crafts traditions, is well preserved. The Anders Svor Museum and Nordfjord Folk Museum are among the places where you can explore the heritage.

On the famous island of Selja you can listen to the exciting story of St. Sunniva among the ruins of the monastery. Or perhaps you would like to follow in the footsteps of the Vikings.
