Winter in Stryn and Nordfjord

White snow, beautiful slopes and groomed cross-country trails all await in Stryn and Nordfjord.

Alpine/snowboard/Telemark

The period from November/December through to April usually offers excellent snow conditions in Stryn and Nordfjord, although because of the high mountains and the climate skiing is possible almost year round here. Ski lifts are available in Stryn, Gloppen, Eid and Hornindal.

Cross-country

Go skiing in vast areas with powder and several kilometres of groomed trails. The area boasts both national and international trails, which were used for the Nordic Championship in 1996, and the Nordic Junior World Championship in 2004.

Back-country skiing and snow-shoeing

The mountains in the Nordfjord region range from a few hundred to about 2,000 metres above sea level. Alpine enthusiasts can choose between over 30 different mountain tops. Guided tours are offered by several companies.

Ski resorts

Stryn Winter Ski Centre
Located four kilometres from Stryn town centre, Stryn Winter Ski Centre has two ski lifts, one 1,180 and the other 1,400 metres. The vertical drop is nearly 700 metres, and the centre has six runs with different levels of difficulty, as well as lifts for children. Ski rental is available, as is a cafeteria and approximately 300 parking spaces. If you wish to ski under the stars, there are opportunities for night skiing, with two kilometres of illuminated cross-country tracks. If there is not enough snow, the centre can offer artificial snow production. In addition, the centre is a good starting point for exploring the mountain tops in the area. Alpepass member. Harpefossen Ski Centre
An arena where county championships in alpine skiing have been held in the past, this centre has six ski lifts, three of which are for children. Here, you will find both groomed slopes and large areas for powder runs. Also, a dedicated arena for biathlon is available, as are opportunities for night skiing for both alpine and cross-country. Hornindal Ski Centre
Located five kilometres north of Grodås, Hornindal Ski Centre can offer cross-country terrain as well as alpine slopes and ski jump. Two-and-a-half kilometres of groomed cross-country tracks are also available at night. A 450-metre long rope lift and excellent groomed slopes in beautiful surroundings are some of the other attractions here. More info about Hornindal Ski Centre.

Breimsbygda Ski Centre
Breimsbygda Ski Centre is located 600 metres above sea level and has a 250 metre vertical drop and four ski lifts: Two main lifts, one children's lift and one lift suitable for disabled people. The centre's slopes are groomed, and can be used day or night. For the snowboarders, a pipe and big jump are available, and if cross-country is your thing, three kilometres of groomed trails are just around the corner and also available at night. Ullsheim, Markane
Ullsheim is a ski stadium with a total of 40 kilometres of cross-country tracks with floodlights in a large park which was the arena for the 1996 Nordic Championship and the 2004 Nordic Junior World Championship. Nearby, there is a new biathlon park and a cafeteria. Other facilities include a locker room, sauna, a well-equipped kitchen, and a large preparation-room. A function hall is available for rent. Nordfjord Fritidssenter, Nordsida
An activity park with facilities for both cross-country skiing and a ski jump, Norfjord Fritidssenter has 13 kilometres of groomed cross-country trails, five kilometres of which are available for night skiing. The cafeteria is open on Sundays, and the large ski jump park has five jumps: K10, K25, K40, K70, and K90. The park is also equipped with a preparation room, a 400-metre long rope lift, locker rooms and showers. Surfing

Winter surfing on the coast of Nordfjord is an exotic experience, and in autumn, winter and spring, the rough weather in the North Sea creates a big swell. And because of the short distances it is easy to combine the surfing with skiing.
