Travel without a car

It is possible to experience the scenic attractions throughout Fjord Norway without hiring a car.

There are good alternatives for travelling within Fjord Norway, but information may be hard to find. Here those of you who do not wish to pick up a hire care at the airport will find alternatives for green travel in the region, which can easily be explored with public transport.

World Heritage Cruise Nærøyfjord

Dicover the spectacular Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord. The Nærøyfjord, a branch of the Sognefjord, has been included in UNESCO World Heritage list and is considered to be among the most scenic fjord areas in the world. Mountains stretching more than 1400 meters up, small settlements, waterfalls and much more. Just waiting for you to explore!

Several daily departures from 15th May to 15th September. This tour consists of a one-way cruise Flåm-Gudvangen and return by shuttlebus.

Price: Approximately USD 60 per person

Organized round trips

Fjord Tours have the best organised round trips based on public transport. Choose between several great trips and let them take you around the region. Stop wherever you like on the way, stay at different places and get to know the region.

With the Fjord Pass from Fjord Tours you will get a discount on hotels, activities and rental cars.

Bus and express boats

Although there are great connections from both Bergen and Stavanger to Oslo, the best way to really get to see the region is to travel by bus or express boat.

Both Nordled and Fjord1 operate express boats in the region. There is a great express bus service that connects Stavanger, Bergen and Ålesund. It allows you to travel between the towns and to make stops along the way.

There are also regular bus routes and some tourist routes that will bring you to great sights.

Train

Stavanger, Bergen, Flåm and Åndalsnes have great train connections to Oslo. The Norwegian State Railway NSB offers two main entries into Fjord Norway: the Bergen Railway and the Southern Railway. In addition, you can enjoy adventures on Flåmsbana and the Rauma Railway. Best in daylight! See nsb.no for more information.

Green Tours by HI Hostels Norway

Combine great scenery with great prices: Catch the bus through the beautiful scenery of Norway's west coast and stay at one of the many hostels along the way. Many of them are close to exciting attractions. Find the list of hotels at norwaygreentours.com
