The snowmobile
A snowmobile is a vehicle for travelling on snow. It runs by tracks in the rear and is steered by skis in the front.

We are in Alta, Northern Norway, ready to explore the enormous white mountain plains on snowmobiles.
Speeding on a snowmobile at the enormous white moutain plains in Alta is defenitely a feeling of freedom and adrenalin.

The snowmobile, also called snowscooter and skimobile, is a normal way of getting around in the county of Finnmark.

The snowmobile trip

The trip starts with lunch at Sorrisniva, where you get warm clothes and helmets, and the guide gives a short instruction on how to drive. You drive in a line with the guide up front.
You pass through birch forests on on your way to the mountain plaines.

There are different tours to choose from to.You can go on a short trip for two or three hours, or you can go at night, looking for northern lights. You can also choose join a trip for several days, staying at cabins or traditinal Sami tents in the mountains.  Groups can have tailor made trips on demand.

Afterwards you relax at the resort and take a drink in the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel in Alta, where eveything is made from snow and ice. Even the glasses in the bar. There is a sauna and an outdoor bath tub.

How to get here

Fly into Alta from Oslo or Tromsø. You will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the resort. There are several other ways of getting to Finnmark and around.
