The North Cape

When standing at the North Cape cliff with the iconic globe monument, only the Svalbard Islands separate you from the North Pole.

When the clouds cover the ocean with a colourful, heavenly carpet, and the midnight sun is at its lowest, this is one of the most special places on earth. With only the Svalbard Islands separating you from the North Pole, it literally feels like you are at the end of the world.

Getting to the North Cape

The nearest village is Honningsvåg. From here you take a bus or drive your own car. Please note that as of July 2012 you no longer have to pay a toll to go through the North Cape Tunnel.

Between 1 November and 30 April, the road is closed for private cars, and you must join the daily bus from Honningsvåg. It is recommendable to buy the ticket one day in advance.

Northern lights

The North Cape, which lies in the vast county of Finnmark, is one of many good places in Northern Norway to see the northern lights.

Visitor centre at the North Cape

At the North Cape you will find a visitor centre with modern facilities. In addition to the famous "Children of the World" monument, there is a museum and a restaurant here.

Entrance fee (as of 2013):
Adults: NOK 245
Children: NOK 85

The first tourist came here in 1664, and a stream of curious visitors has followed ever since. People from all parts of the world spend days and weeks travelling to come here to experience the freedom and closeness to the cold north.

The North Cape is commonly referred to as the northernmost place on mainland Europe. Whilst Knivskjellodden and Kinnarodden are both slightly more north, the North Cape cliff is more accessible for tourists.
