Where to stay in Setesdal

Camp by the Byglandsfjord or spend the night in an old-fashioned wooden tourist cabin - the choice is yours in Setesdal.

The typical overnight stop in Setesdal is a camping site with cabins. There is a wide selection of camping sites, ranging from basic ones to some offering five-star comfort. If you prefer to stay in a hotel, you will find individual establishments with their own distinctive style. Here are some recommended places to stay overnight.

Camping sites

Odden Camping is located by the river Otra, within walking distance from shops. Bikes, fishing gear and canoes are available for hire. Guided hikes. Long shoreline with great opportunities for swimming and fishing. Cabins for rent in various categories and prices. Suited for motorhomes, caravans and tents.

Neset Camping is a peaceful, four-star campsite situated in beautiful surroundings on a headland overlooking Byglandsfjorden, by Highway 9, 8 miles north of Evje. The site is well suited for tents, caravans and motorhomes, and has more than 200 power supply points and facilities for cable TV hook-up. There are also 29 cabins which sleep between 4 and 8 persons each. There is also a grocery store licensed to sell beer. The cafeteria is open in high season.

Hotels

With direct access from Rv9 and a spectacular view over the Byglandsfjord, Revsnes Hotel is not only a central nexus and meeting point for the local people and businesses, it is also a homely tourist hotel focusing on experiences and local food culture. Come along for a trip on the fjord with the steam ship Bjoren, hike one of the waymarked hiking routes nearby, or try one of the adrenaline-inducing activities with Troll Aktiv.

The brand new Sølvgarden Hotell og Feriesenter offers modern accommodation and wonderful food. The building is decorated with items from the silversmith tradition in the Setesdal Valley. The owner himself is a third-generation silversmith, and you will find a silversmith’s workshop and a shop with a wide range of silver items and gifts produced on site.

Bykle Hotel is located in charming, rural surroundings approximately 17 miles south of Hovden. The newer building, which was completed in the winter of 2006, makes for an exciting combination with the traditional Setesdal style of the old section. The hotel offers accommodation for 95 persons in comfortable rooms and apartments of various sizes.

The restaurant offers à la carte menu, as well as a variety of dishes, including traditional food.

Tourist Cabins

Tranquility, nature and traditions are words that give an accurate description of the Bjåen Tourist Cabin. Leave the modern world behind, spend the day outdoors and explore the magnificent surroundings, before you return to the cabin to enjoy a tasty and traditional meal. The accommodation is based on self-catering, but lodging with meals is also available. This spacious tourist cabin has six rooms and 12 beds, and in the nearby "barn", there are four apartments, each with six beds. By Lake Breivatn, half mile from the cabin, you will find a traditional open-hearth house - there is no better place to enjoy the fresh trout you just caught.
