Tips and Rules for Campsites in Norway

Tents, caravans and mobile homes are welcome at most Norwegian campsites.

Caravans and mobile homes

Permitted size of caravans on Norwegian roads:

  • Height: No restriction.
  • Width:  8.3 feet max. Note that some secondary roads have a maximum width of less than 8.3 feet. If your caravan is wider than 7.5 feet and more than 1.64 feet wider than the car, white reflectors must be mounted on the front sides of the car's mirrors.
  • Total length (car + caravan): 61.51 feet max. Drivers of cars and caravans with a combined length of more than 40.68 feet must check from whether it is permissible to drive on the intended road or route.

You can obtain more information from the Roads Information Service - phone: 175 (+47 815 48 991 from abroad).

Tents

If you are planning to stay in a tent, it is best to bring your own as very few sites have tents for hire.

Opening times

Opening times are normally from 7 am to 11 pm. The larger campsites tend to have someone on duty 24 hours a day.

Camping card

As a rule, a camping card is not obligatory in Norway, but may be compulsary for some campsites. If so, the camping card to use is Camping Key Europe, which also offers a range of benefits to cardholders.
