Áššu bases its music on traditional Sami yoik. Ulla Pirttijärvi yoiks about relatives and her hometowns of Utsjoki and Angeli. Olav Torget and Harald Skullerud complete the ensemble with string instruments and percussion. The ensemble gets inspiration from West African music and tradition, in addition to traditional Sami music.
Their expression spans from calm and floating atmospheres to more up-tempo and rhythmic sequences.
