Trøndelag Center for Contemporary Art presents the solo exhibition "Gull og tause skoger" (Jan 11–Feb 9) by artist Øystein Pålsønn Lønvik.

Lønvik works with wood as his primary material, making sculptures that thematicaly balance between nature's impact on humans and human intervention in nature.

His sculptures combine meticulous craftsmanship with raw, fractured forms, inspired by his background in woodcarving. Themes of fragility and interconnectedness in nature are central to his work.

Living on his ancestral farm on Ytterøy, Lønvik draws from the island’s limestone-rich environment, which supports diverse flora like the wych elm (Ulmus glabra). While opposing the resumption of limestone mining on the island, he reflects on the paradox of how the same mineral that nurtures life could also destroy it.

Øystein Pålsønn Lønvik (b. 1992, Tromsø) lives and works on Ytterøy in Trøndelag. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and a craftsman’s certificate in woodcarving.

The artist has received support for the exhibition from the Norwegian Visual Artists Fund and was awarded TSSK’s Production Grant in 2024.

See the exhibition until Sunday, February 9!

Exhibition hours:

  • Wednesday–Friday: 12:00–17:00
  • Saturday–Sunday: 12:00–16:00
