This afternoon we celebrate a living legend — Øystein Søbstad. He has been a leading figure in Norwegian and Swedish music for many years. When Clarke Terry heard him play, he said: “You remind me of Phil Woods.” There’s hardly a greater compliment to be given. Søbstad’s interpretations of ballads are second to none, and the same goes for his phrasing.

Øystein Søbstad masters both alto and tenor sax. Joining him are some of his favorite musicians and close friends:
