Norway's best jazz musicians explore the music and zeitgeist from the era surrounding the ECM records of Keith Jarrett's European Quartet!
This project started as a commission from Oslo Jazzfestival 2024, to mark the 50th anniversary of Keith Jarrett's legendary Belonging record being recorded in Oslo. The concert was a great success with full houses and warm feedback.
Now the quartet returns with an extended version that explores more of the music of Jarrett/Garbarek/Danielsson/Christensen - in their own, personal interpretations of these timeless melodies.
Hanna Pausberg - saxophone
Vigleik Storaas - piano
Trygve Fiske - bass
Hans Hulbækmo - drums
Belonging is an iconic jazz album by Keith Jarrett, released in 1974 on ECM Records. The album was recorded at Arne Bendiksen Studio in Oslo, and marks the beginning of Jarrett’s so-called “European Quartet” – with Jan Garbarek (saxophone), Palle Danielsson (bass) and Jon Christensen (drums). The album is considered a milestone in both Jarrett’s and Garbarek’s careers, and a key release in ECM’s characteristic “Nordic” sound universe: lyrical, open, melodic and with a great sense of space.
Some of the most famous tracks are “Long as You Know You’re Living Yours”, “Belonging”, “Blossom” and “The Windup”. The album received rave reviews and has had a lasting influence on European jazz, not least in Norway, where it was recorded and where Garbarek and Christensen contributed greatly to the soundscape.
