From the history books, 1816 is known as the year without a summer, and 1816 is a band that explores the darkness within us all with bare lyrics and music that is located somewhere in between improvisation and alternative pop. Like if Bjørk and Keith Jarrett have composed for Rickie Lee Jones and a small chamber orchestra.
Wenche Losnegård and Audun Ellingsen both have extensive experience from Norwegian jazz and improvised music, and has written music for dance performances and film, in addition to critically acclaimed albums.
For their concert at Oslo Jazz Festival, 1816 is joined by cellist Gregor Riddell and drummer Erik Nylander. They have also invited the acclaimed Norwegion violinist and composer Ola Kvernberg as their guest of honour.
