Join Outdoorlife Norway on a 2-day winter hike and camping tour to the famous Kjerag boulder. Our Arctic Nature Guide will lead you through winter wonderland to experience the silence of the mountains before the high season kicks in.
Kjerag – also called the Majesty of the Lysefjord – is doomed to sit out winter and face the elements of nature in isolation. During winter both the summer road from Stavanger as well as the hiking trail are inaccessible.
On day 1, your guide will pick you up in Stavanger at approx. 12.30pm. After a transfer, we'll cruise the full length of the Lysefjord by ferry. We will hike 6 kilometers from the fjord up to 640 meters above sea level, before putting up camp, using winter proof tents and sleeping bags. If we are lucky, we can enjoy a beautiful sunset over the fjord.
On day 2, expect snow conditions. Your guide knows the way, and will provide you with hiking poles, spikes and snowshoes. While the sun rises from behind the mountains, we work our way up to Kjerag, which is about 5.5 kilometers and contains three slopes. Panoramic views on the 42 long Lysefjord – flanked by 1000 meter high mountain walls – will unfold. We'll enjoy a lunch and break at the boulder. The way back to the fjord is 12 kilometers long. The 1000 meter descent will take approximately 4 hours. We cruise the fjord once more, before driving back to Stavanger, where we will arrive at approx. 19.45 (7.45pm).
